There is probably a quote out there written which more eloquently states what I am about to say, but in my words, to truly create an understanding of anything you have to build it up, build your knowledge as high as you can, and when you’ve finally reached the peak, when you think you know it all, you have to be willing and ready to destroy it all, and start all over. For get all the fundamentals and re-learn from scratch. In the rebuilding of your knowledge of something you once knew, new things you’ve never known will appear. This happens because your previously held notions of the topic which once restrained your mind from exploring are gone. You still understand the idea, it is impossible to completely forget, but by destroying the fundamentals you re-learn in a way that you’ve never seen before. In the end you’ll know everything again. But that is also the time to destroy and start all over.

The destruction symbolizes a release of the chains around your mind. Constraining you to only go a certain direction. It’s like trying to get to point B, there are thousands if not millions of ways to get there. In the beginning we always get lost, we take back streets, go in circles but finally we find it Eventually a pattern develops, and we will always take the route. But, there are still thousands of more ways to get their. It seems ridiculous to be happy and settle with that one or two ways. There are just so many more ways to approach the point, some may be longer, others may be shorter, some may offer more scenery, some may offer none. But each way is different and each way offers something the others can’t. Sure, the shorter route may be best when fighting the clock, but the quite beautiful scenery of a different route can cheer the mood, when one is feeling down. Something the shorter route cannot do.

This is knowledge, if we become comfortable with the way we approach knowledge we will always approach it in that manner, but there are thousands of more ways to approach it, each way offering something new. Something to be learned. By constraining our minds, and not allowing us to start over with a fresh start, we will never learn anything new. The approach to riding a bike and the approach to learning to fish will produce different end results, but the experience and everything in the middle will always be the same.

I have a problem with this, I need to learn and accept that starting over is okay. Continuing on preconceived notions can only go so far, especially if they are wrong. Time is not everything, nor is it anything, investing in time is like multiplying by zero a hundred times, no matter what you will get 0, and end up wasting more “time” then you originally hoped to save.

*Rant * A cluster of thoughts

I will be pulling my first and last all nighter of the semester. 1 cups of coffee down many more to go. Maybe, I’ll OD on caffeine and begin to hallucinate, and then I may get more insightful, then I’ll write better.

Or maybe not, doesn’t seem too healthy
